High load issues

Hi,

We have a Cpanel dedicated server with quad processors hyperthreaded 2.8Gig - its running only 7 sites but these have a very heavy load - Bandwidth usage is approx 150 Meg per month. The sites are article based and make particularly heavy use of MySQL.

We have upgraded the hardware a couple of times - but the sites continue to run much slower than we would like - particularly at the busy times of the day.

What can we do to (script issues aside) to improve response times.

Don't say if you have optimized the my.cnf? IMLX it tends to be more art than science although there are certain mysql variables that have more impact than others.
