    Default Home directory not available

    OK, first off I'm not a uber web admin so I probably screwed this up myself.

    Here is what happened and now what the problem is.

    I created a new account on my dedicated server, which got created in a folder called /home, by accident. (fixed). I moved the site files (/site) from /home, to the directory /home

    The site is working fine.. http..etc.. however I can no longer FTP into the site via software cuteftp Pro.

    I get this error message:

    STATUS:> Resolving host name www.&&&&&&&.com...
    STATUS:> Host name www.&&&&&&&.com resolved: ip = 111.111.111.111.
    STATUS:> Connecting to FTP server www.&&&&&&&&.com:21 (ip = 111.111.111.111)...
    STATUS:> Socket connected. Waiting for welcome message...
    220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------

    220-Local time is now 21:03. Server port: 21.
    220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
    STATUS:> Connected. Authenticating...
    COMMAND:> USER &&&&
    331 User &&&& OK. Password required
    COMMAND:> PASS *****
    421 Home directory not available - aborting
    ERROR:> Service unavailable. Try again later.
    STATUS:> Waiting 30 seconds...
    ERROR:> Can't read from control socket. Socket error = #10054.

    This was working perfectly right before I moved this directory.. now it won't.

    Can someone tell me where the file is located that tells the server where directories for accounts are located? Because it's pointing to the OLD directory that no longer exists.

    Can anyone help?

    I know it's been a while but in case this happens to someone else, the solution is to use the user name and password of the user that generated the FTP account in CPANEL.
    This error is due to the lack of permissions for the new user to modify the home folder, in case it was YOU who created the new FTP user, then use your "admin" user, in case you have a hosting account with a friend ask them to give permission to your new FTP user of the "home" folder or ask them for their admin user (less likely)
    hope this helps anyone!

    :cheers:

    That's not by accident, that's where cPanel creates accounts.
