So has this, every cPanel update will overwrite the changes you make there. Better to just make it a domain instead.

I'm not sure this is the case anymore - we have a page there on all our servers which used to get overwritten with cPanel updates (we ran a cron to re-write it again!), but this doesn't seem to happen with the latest releases.

Can you expand on that a bit?

    Mine is located at:
    /usr/local/apache/htdocs

There is a new index.html with the latest Current builds that has different text:

    Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server
If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.

    ATTENTION!
If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending an email to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running cPanel, WebHost Manager, and Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group. Please do not send mail about this site or its contents to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group.

    About Apache HTTP Server:

Their efforts have helped shape much the world wide web, and they continue to be a dominating force in the web hosting industry.

I had modified the page but as of the past few days, its getting overwritten. At least with Current builds it is. During yesterday's update, all of my default pages were overwritten.

Am I the only who is seeing this? It may be specific to current builds only. The page, however, has been overwritten each night. Any suggestions on how to prevent that?

It doesnt affect current builds specifically as I am running current myself, the permissions of the file are: root/root 644
