Default How can i control traffic only thru FTP and HTTP

    Hi,

Can anybody please tell me if it is possible to only allow acces to a account via www.domainname.com and using FTP using Cpanel/WHM

Is it possible to disallow access using ipaddress/~username to access to the site as, as far as i know any traffic that comes this way cannot be monitored with Cpanel

    Thanks

You can disable access to IP/~username by using the userdir tweak in WHM -> Security -> Security Center. However, IIRC traffic like that can be monitored, but bandwidth wont be tracked. Personally, I try to avoid ~username myself unless I'm waiting for DNS propagation on one of my own sites.

As for your first request, can you clarify? Are you creating an account that can only be administered via FTP (no cPanel interface)? If that is the case, I'd recommend creating a feature list with nothing enabled and assigning that to a package which you then assign to such an account - for safe measure in case they do access cPanel, they can't do anything.

    Thanks for your reply,

The reason i am asking is that my host claims i am responsible for overage of 5040gb on a domain i have. The site they say was spiked via the ip address and not http and i wanted to know if traffic could be blocked via that route as you cannot control the bandwidth limit on a account via IP but only http which i am not sure if that is correct

i have a reseller account and i feel as i have no control over that IP how can i be responsible?

    Hi,

Can a dedicated ip also be set to be disabled this way in WHM/Cpanel?

You mean with the mod userdir tweak? The SysAdmin would need to do that. Typically Resellers do not have sufficient access to do that in WHM as this is a server-wide setting.

If you're not accessing your domain via IP, a kludge would be to set up a .htaccess rule that if your domain isn't present in the requested URL (ex: yourDomain.com), to deny access (as yourDomain.com is not going to be in your IP address).
