Default how to change an ip address mask

    hi,
i have on my cpanel an ip address with a bad network mask; the ip address appears in the linux console eth0 ok (mask .224), but then eth0:1 has the same ip with a wrong mask (mask .0). I have not found the right way to change it and this ip is used as the primary virtual IP inside the cPanel config.

I though it would appear as a virtual IP inside /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ but there is only a file for eth0 and eth1; no eth0.1 or so...

ifconfig shows eth0 and eth0:1 there are some more too because i have many ip for this, but the one i'm concerned is this one.

You will have to edit the file /etc/ips and restart the service ipaliases after editing it:

    Code:
    [root@server]# service ipaliases restart

    i got this error
Bringing up eth0:1 SIOCGIFADDR: Cannot assign requested address
    SIOCSIFBROADCAST: Cannot assign requested address
    SIOCSIFBRDADDR: Cannot assign requested address
    SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
    [FAILED]
Routing x.x.x.x SIOCADDRT: No such device
    [FAILED]

i just changed the ip address for X's

the rest of the ip aliases went up OK
now, as i mentioned this eth0:1 had the same ip as the eth0
everything is working and the networks that were not able to see it are now able to do it...but it this error something to be worried?

another solution was to move all the domains from this virtual ip, remove it and then put it back; is this a good idea? (remember it is the same ip i have in the main interface)

There are many ways to mask the IP address first and foremost you have to know what's your ip for that you can check with www.ip-details.com after that you can mask it through ISP..
