How to Configure Spam Assassin with Cpanel?

Hi there:
I am not sure if this is the appropriate forum and I would like some help on creating email filters using Cpanel with SpamAssassin. I am the end user and host my own web site and emails. I have had this account for years and last week I started to get hundreds of spam and junk emails. Where can I go to learn more about using the email filtering options in Cpanel with regards to SpamAssassin? How can I set up SpamAssassin to stop these annoying messages from reaching me? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is what I currently have configured in my Cpanel:
Currently I have set my required_score to 2.00

Filter Destination
$h_X-Spam-Bar: contains "++" Discard
$h_X-Spam-Status: begins "yes" Discard
$header_subject: contains "***SPAM***" Discard

These are the only end user options available to me the end user:
Available Filters are: From, Subject, To, Body, Any Header, SpamAssassin Spam Header, SpamAssassin Spam Bar, SpamAssassin Spam Score

THAT: equals, matches regex, begins with, is above (numbers only), is not above (numbers only), is below (numbers only), is not below (numbers only)

Destination is a blank box which I can type in.

Question: On my configure page.How can I assign scores and what does this do?
Just as an FYI the headers say that mail has been scanned by SA but not marked as spam ... I do not have root access and my provider is not that helpful

First off, make sure you do _not_ have a default address. If you have a default address that is set to anything other than :fail: , then remove it. If you need to maintain only a few POP3/webmail accounts but you want to accept mail for other email addresses in your domain and have them forward to one of the POP3 mailboxes, set up individual forwarders instead of using a default address.

Check your default address - make sure it is set to: :fail: or something like :fail: No such user here


This option is also called 'Discard with error to sender (at SMTP time)' - enable that and alternatively specify a reject message such as 'No such user here'

Then, as far as your spamassassin seemingly _scanning_ the mail but not marking it as spam, look at the full message header of a piece of email that you know is blatant spam - and give us an example of the headers (specifically the portion of the headers having to do with SA). If SA is scanning mails but not marking them as spam, one has to wonder if your hosting provider's SA is working properly - During various Cpanel upgrades in the past I have seen problems with SA no longer filtering mail like it is supposed to due to problems with the rulessets used by SpamAssassin. Your provider may indeed need to get involved in this.
