Red face How To Disable Generating Full Backup On CPanel

Is there a way you can just disable the Generate Full Backup link in the Backup section of CPanel, and not disable the Backup section completely?

Meaning, I just want to disable that one function a client has the ability to do, but I don't want to stop them from being able to download their home directory, mysql databases, etc.

    Hi,

There's no way to disable specifically the Full Backups from either WHM or cPanel. You can either disable the complete backup set or leave it as it is...

Is there any particular reason for disabling the generation of full backups? I ask because in the past there was concern about the usage of server resources during the full backup process. However, we now have full backups run as a very low priority (nice 19) to avoid these issues.

I am indeed noticing that the 'Generate Full Backup' function is STILL causing high cpu loads when run on accounts that have for example 200+ MB of files.

Please can you consider making a disable Full Backups option in Tweak settings or something similar. We have the Daily and Weekly downlaods available for clients anyway which have already been generated each night/week, it is not useful to re-gzip all the files again for each Full Backup.

Thanks for you attention to this.

I see there is already a feature request for this at: http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/show_bug.cgi?id=7645

David, any thought being put into not gzipping the user generated backup or giving system administrators an option to not allow gzipping of the backup. Just creating a tarball of the account, that is not compress. I think the gzip process is what wears down a server when a user created a generated backup.

I know this should be filed in Bugzilla, I haven't gotten around to it yet (or to see if there is an entry there).

One reason that I'd like to see the full backup disabled at the user level is that at times it put accounts over their quota.
