my advise is if your box is running 4.3.x of php..dont bother upgrading..
many ppl havin issues with the latest phpbb..

just a quick tip..if your looking for phpbb support..check out there forums..
as they created it..not cpanel..

download latest version and run the upgrade script easy enough, cpanel just install the latest version that was out when they realse, they cant update cpanel every time a new script is updated its just plain pointless when you can do it yourself in a few minutes.

cPanel is under constant development and updating this script is a somewhat trivial matter. If they are not going to update it, then they should just not bother offering it.
I agree with SarcNBit. It even states in WHM "Install and Keep updated"... If they are not willing to put in the effort to keep them updated then remove it entirely.
Currently the PHPBB in Cpanel is completely shot wont install on any accounts... So not even the version its at now works for us.
i gave up on the cpanel scripts..and installed fantastico..
you can either purhchase a license from the directly or ask your datacenter
for it..for a small monthly fee..if any (depends on the dc)
How is updating so trivial? They give you instructions. Read them, and install. I believe part of learning is figuring out/doing things on your own
Take out the old bits and put in the new. Seems pretty simple to me. I am not talking about cPanel supporting the update of existing installs (though the phpBB group does post diffs), I am talking about making sure that the when people install phpBB through their cPanels that they are installing an up to date version.
What are you talking about? Who gives you instructions?
The point here is not that phpBB is installable outside of cPanel, the point is that it is installable INSIDE of cPanel.
Hmm, maybe if you don't want your users installing insecure scripts, don't allow it in the features?
OR! cPanel could update the copy they provide for clients to autoinstall via their cPanels. What you just said equates to what I said a few posts back "If they are not going to update it, then they should just not bother offering it.", only you want to put the onus on admins to remove it.
We use fantastico on all of our cPanel servers, so it really is not that big of an issue for us, but that is not the point now is it?
