Question How to remove the Remote mySQL icon button in cPanel?

I would like to remove the Remote mySQL icon from cPanel X3 theme, but I can't seem to find the way to do it. There is no option for it in the WHM Feature Manager (unless I'm overlooking it).

Can someone please tell me how I could do this?
Thank you,
M2

Edit - for that matter, I'd really like to know how to remove or hide any icon that is not controlled by Feature Manager.

The goal of Feature Manager is to allow any icon to be turned on or off. If you notice any icon missing an entry in Feature Manager, please submit this as a bug to http://bugzilla.cpanel.net or submit a ticket regarding this. Both methods will ensure our Quality Assurance team becomes aware of the situation.

Hi DavidG,

I submitted a support ticket regarding this over the weekend and these were the responses I got:

Quote:
The only way to remove just the Remote MySQL icon is to modify the theme itself, as there is no option to remove just this icon without removing all MySQL icons.
To which I replied asking how to modify the theme, which files to edit etc... since this was something that could not be changed in the Feature Manager nor in the Branding X3 Edit Live section, and I received this response:

Quote:
You can get the files manually from /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/THEME and manually edit them and reupload to your liking. If you happen to mess up the theme, you can move the theme folder to something like x3-bak and run a /scripts/upcp --force and it will re-write a fresh new one.
Somewhat helpful but still slightly vague, I ventured in and after a pain-staking search finally discovered the one file out of the 3,720 files in the X3 themes folder that I needed to edit, and I was able to hide the Remote MySQL icon that way. However, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the icon will re-appear after the next cPanel upgrade.

To be honest, I was a bit frustrated by the fact that they couldn't just tell me "edit this file in the X3 folder manually" and told me which file it was, but at least they set me on the right path and I was ultimately able to figure out which file it was (dynamicui.conf , for those of you who have been pulling your hair out like me trying to figure it all out). BTW you can also change the links that icons point to from within that file as well, as I discovered, so I'm able to point the main Video Tutorials icon to my own so that users won't keep asking me why they don't have access to certain things that are in the video tutorial.

And DavidG, in regard to BugZilla - I am reluctant to utilize it because it publicly displays the email address of anyone who submits a bug. I would think that most anyone would find this to be undesireable, and therefore I don't use BugZilla. If it ever offers the option to submit a bug report without publicly displaying my email address, I would love to participate in this feature.

Perhaps you could encourage the cPanel team to make it easier for us to edit which icons appear and what they link to in cPanel, since obviously the Feature Manager does not handle them all individually, and since the editor in Branding X3 Edit Live does not include editing access to the file that is most important and allowed me to hide the icon myself. I'm not sure how much weight my support ticket would carry in that regard, considering the responses I got, which felt a bit cloak & dagger.

Thank you very much for your response, again, I do appreciate it very much.

If you modified the x3 theme directly, such modifications will be overwritten.

If you copied the x3 theme, then modified your copy and assigned users to use your copy, such modifications will not be overwritten. However, updates to x3 will not propagate to your copy of the theme.

So the only real / reliable solution will be when/if cPanel gives us the ability to disable the Remote MySQL icon in WHM > Feature Manager.

/me crosses fingers and hopes for soon...

Submitting a ticket back in June 2008 didn't yield any results, so at your advice I've submitted a bugzilla entry:

http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/show_bug.cgi?id=8697

I hope that other users will vote!
