    Hey,

Um, you don't. Their is no point in creating that email account since you won't be checking it!!!

Open /etc/valiases/domain.com in a text editor

Add on a new line before the line that begins *:

    do-not-reply@domain.com: /dev/null

I need to set a do not reply account for my forum automated notifications.

glansing, How to do that in cpanel?

HelloAdam, do you mean I don't create the account and just set my default catchall to :fail: or :blackhole: ? Are you refering to this method? Is it better to set fail or blackhole?

I also have a concern, by not creating the account, will my mails get flagged by spam filters?

    Success,

It is best to set your catch-all to :fail:. See http://www.configserver.com/free/fail.html for an explanation of the reasons that you should.

Yes, if the account doesn't exist you run the risk of e-mail not being accepted (sender verify checks will fail). Unfortunately, you cannot create a forwarder to /dev/null straight through cPanel. If you try to create a forwarder for no-reply@domain.com => /dev/null, cPanel will append @domain.com to /dev/null.

You should contact your hosting provider and ask them to create the forwarder manually for you.

IIRC you can create a forwarder to :fail: though.

    So much bad advice!!!!!

Do not set a forwarder to :fail: as sender verify checks will fail.
Go into cPanel and setup a forwarder to :blackhole:
This way sender verify checks will work and email for that address will be deleted. There is no need to contact your hosting provider you can do it within cPanel yourself.

Guys, thanks a lot for assisting.

Michael, do you mean the best method is to create noreply@domain.com as a real account, then create a forwarder for it to :blackhole: ?

Do you guys recommend blackhole or fail for noreply accounts?

    Thanks.

Just setup a forwarder, no need to setup a mail account.

If you use :fail: you will fail sender verification. In this instance you should use :blackhole:

    Sorry to ask this again.

If I do not set it as a real account and only create a forwarder for it to blackhole, will it pass sender verify checks?

Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it.

I have been searching google about noreply accounts and counldn't find a good explanation on it. Luckily I remember the best place to ask would be cpanel forums.

I agree! Why are members providing lines of code when it's as simple as:
    cPanel > Mail > Forwards

    Bada Bing - It's done.

We set ours up like a regular email account and put the quota at zero, works very well and is simpistic.

Fine if you don't mind emails sitting in the queue, one good thing about this approach is that if anyone does send an email to a no-reply address they will eventually get an email back saying that the email was not received (as mailbox was full).
