For instance, so someone could sign up at a domain for a free email account and have pop/webmail access.
Has anyone done this, and if so, can you point me in the right direction?
Would anyone be interested in collaborating on one?

I am also intrested in this. If it has already been made let me know so I can go searching for it. So far I've found nothing.

I was kind of looking for something that would tie into CPanels setup and use oour existing webmail. Thanks though.Originally posted by Angel78

I did this at http://freemail.elton-fan.com and it has turned into a nightmare. There is a simple script out there specifically for cPanel that enables your users to sign up automatically but it also sets you up for becoming a spammer. The user can easily enter false information, such as their contact e-mail. They are also unable to retrieve their password if it gets lost.
My solution: I put up a form for the user to fill out and I manually set up the accounts and manage them. They have to give a real e-mail address to get their login information or retrieve their password. The form logs the IP address of the computer they are using to sign up.
Good luck!

that's probably the best way, agreed. i've been fiddling with it for a few days now and that seems to be the most logical way. thanks.Originally posted by JackHandy

How do all these measures stop a spammer using your free email accounts?

It doesn't stop them but it's a deterrance if you want to offer free e-mail to your viewers. At least you know you have a valid contact e-mail and possibly a real name.

Is this more what you are looking for?

it sure is...that looks nice. i didnt sign up () but if it creates the account and everything, that's a winner for sure.
We got the scripts somewhere through this forum, but we have the support e-mail contact for the scripts
support@warwithboredom.com
They should be able to get you the scripts.
The best part "This script will only works if your web host is running CPanel"
There are several files all php based.
config.php readme.php signup.php signup.sql theme.php

cool. thanks guys!
I successfully used that script on www.pcgsmail.com and added image validation using PHP (random text that must be typed in as shown in the picture), so that stops mass account signup by spammers and it stops robots and other sites from creating accounts.
