Try this. It has always worked for me. I have done it on RH 7.2, 7.3, 9.0, and Enterprise 3.

    ssh in as root and:

    1. mkdir /home/src
    2. cd /home/src
    3. wget http://www.imagemagick.org/download/ImageMagick-6.0.8-3.tar.gz
    4. tar xvzf ImageMagick-6.0.8-3.tar.gz
    5. cd ImageMagick-6.0.8
    6. ./configure
    7. make
    8. make install
    9. cd PerlMagick
    10. perl Makefile.PL
    11. make
    12. make install

Default default location of imagemagick executable scripts

doesn't it put it in the /usr/bin/ folders by default?

animate, compare, composite, conjure, convert, display, identify, import, mogrify, montage...

    Question

Being a newb to all of this can someone confirm my suspicions that the users path to imagemagick would be /usr/share/ImageMagick-6.0.8?

I am also having this problem.

    I have used the following:

    /usr/bin
    /usr/bin/
/usr/bin/convert (how it was set origonaly on my old reseller account with another company)

And have no luck what so ever.

I'm using 4images and also the gallery addon for vbulliten, and both wont work..

    /usr/bin sometimes
    also /usr/local/bin can have it...
and sometimes older versions are deeper in an X11 directory.

'locate convert' will likely return a lot of results and can be hard to find the IM binaries within all of them.

    So try something like
    'locate mogrify'

and the directory that binary is in should be the directory for IM.

n_wattam, if you don't have it, you'll have to install it. Find the RPM for your distro or compile it from source.

This didn't seem to work for me. All the commands ran, but when I do mogrify -version it still shows my old version.

If your previous version was an RPM install, remove it with the rpm -e command. If you compiled it, you may have two copies now. One in /usr/bin and one in /usr/local/bin. If so, remove the older version.
