IMAP/maildir conversion

After reviewing a few tickets about conversion problems, I'd like to recommend the following to anyone having a problem:

/scripts/courierup --force
/scripts/eximup --force

So far this has resolved the problem on all but one machine (which had a broken rpm database)

It appears that xinetd doesn't always reload correctly when it gets SIGHUP and the old imap will still continue to run.

Be nice if my bug ID was updated with this information. Thanks Nick, I will let you know.

Edit: Maybe make this a sticky?

Made sticky and I've been mentioning the advice in most of the maildir threads kicking around.

I went thru the conversion and afterwards noticed that all user-created folders in SquirrelMail were gone along with the messages stored in them.

Well, it turned out that the folders were simply unsubscribed. If you click the Folders link and subscribe to the folders again, they'll show up on the folders list just fine.

Not a big deal, but I got some tickets from terrified customers asking why their email had been lost. You may want to post it in your knowledge base or let your customers know.

I had already mentioned this in 2 or 3 of the longer maildir threads

Have you checked in WHM > Service Manager and ensured that imap is ticked, then tried again?

What does this update do?

What exactly is updated / replaced by this update.

From the forums I gather:

It removes neomail
It removes cppop ?

Is there any help files for this new way of working ?

Is this a temp thing that will be changed back or is this gonna be the way forward from now ?

Anything else we should know before we update ?

Thx

Disk space usage seems to have gotten higher fast after the conversion. I have been checking on mailfolders and found lot of files like "1128879017.000000.mbox:2". Since I have now converted to maildir, are these some mbox-format backups that could be deleted?

1. Physical actions of the conversion are:

uw-imap (cpimap) is disabled
cppop is disabled
neomail is disabled
existing mbox mailboxes are converted to maildir format
existing IMAP subfolders are converted to maildir format
courier-imap (+pop3) os installed
exim is updated to include integration with courier imap

2. If you want documentation on the new imap and pop server you can get it from the courier-imap site:
http://www.courier-mta.org/imap/

3. It's the way forward. The new system has several benefits, which include better performance; improved mailbox locking; simultaneous IMAP account access; use of open source code. I would imagine that cPanel will continue to support mbox, but will switch to maildir as the default soon.

4. No, just be aware of the above.

My problem was no mail being sent on a mailing list
My Fix was /scripts/upcp --force

So, is it save to convert over or can we expect some mayor hickups?
reading a few thread it seems like it could create more problems then solve them ?

I've done all of our servers without any problems. The choice is yours, of course. The level of problems is probably proportionate to the number of users that you have that use Neomail.
