    Angry Install Issues

    Hi All,

Someone help me please!! I am installing CPANEL, and it has been running with those dots across the screen for more than 12 hours now! How can I chceck to see what is gonig on? Can I abort the install and start over? Is there some type of log that will show me status??

I've been up at this all night, any help would be appreciated........I'm running Red Hat 9.0

    Thanks,

    Arthur

It should only take an hour or two. Any longer and there are problems. You should check the installation logs in /var/log/cpanel* and run an strace on the active PID to see what it is doing. If it is just hanging you should abort it and try again.

Is there a particular reason you're using the old, unsupported and now insecure RH9 instead of something more appropriate?

    Unhappy Install Log Contents

    Chirpy,

This is all that is in my log:

    [root@nitelife log]# more cpanel-install-thread1.log
cPanel install started at: Sun Sep 4 19:05:48 2005!
cPanel install started at: Sun Sep 4 19:06:38 2005!
cPanel install started at: Sun Sep 4 19:36:46 2005!
cPanel install started at: Sun Sep 4 19:41:00 2005!

Can I just abort and re-start?

    Thanks.

And, it is only because this is the version of Red Hat that I have laying around.

I'd abort and restart it and watch it closely for activity in the two logs files in /var/logs and on the screen. It will appear to be doing nothing at times, but not for hours.

Oh, and do make sure that you have valid domain resolvers in /etc/resolv.conf so that DNS lookups are answered and that you don't have any firewall blocks on the required ports.

Apache should not be working at that point since you should be installing cPanel on a minimal server installation.
