    Default Installation NEVER WORKS! Problems

    I've been trying for a week now to install cPanel. It either doesn't install, or finishes with lots of errors.

    At the moment, it's running but with missing components. I get the following:

    http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os...rimary.xml.gz: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
    Trying other mirror.
    Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

    If anyone can please help, do so. I'm tempted to move to Windows with Plesk because of these problems. I have clients waiting for this new server. I'm running CentOs 4.1, clean install.

    CAN ANYONE HELP?

    Thanks.

    You yum update repositories are the problem, isn't Cpanel. Check www.centosforums.org for more information on setting up yum.conf.

    Indeed. And also check that you have working DNS resolvers in /etc/resolv.conf

    Found the following on the CentOS forums:

    Try specifying an actual mirror in your yum.conf to see if it works. Sounds like the mirror it's going to isn't synched or something.

    [update]
    name=CentOS-$releasever - Updates
    baseurl=http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/centos/$releasever/updates/$basearch/
    gpgcheck=1

    Seems to be getting further now and actually downloads the packages. I'll remove it once done and see how it goes. It may be due to the release of 4.2 and the synching of mirrors. I'll give it a few days, but at least it's updating now and i can hopefully get things working.

    Thanks.

    Default still ongoing

    Problems persist. CHKSERVD never works after install, MySQL has lots of permission problems, GD never installs and complains about checksums. YUM seems to be the issue and updating the repository doesnt work properly.

    Can anyone advise me about the installation and what NOT to install? I did a clean install, without ANY services such as DNS, MAIL, MYSQL, etc...

    Can anyone provide basic installation instructions for CentOS 4.1? Just out of interest.

    I tried Trustix 2.2 and it worked fine first time and everything functioned correctly, but i'd prefer running CentOS 4.1.

    Thanks.

    I just ran across this issue on a centos 3.6 machine. The /etc/rc.d/init.d/chkservd file was junk. I copied this file from another centos server and CHKSERVD & the service status now work properly.

    IIRC, the chkservd package should get reinstalled if you run:

    /scripts/upcp --force

    no chirpy, the file wasn't replaced by the /scripts/upcp

    but Harryhood is right copying the file from anohter server works fine...

    the weird is that in 6 CentOS 4 servers the chkservd failes... I think is some cPanel problem...

    the install works for me, its takes hours to complete but it doesnt install mysql. Mysql is MISSING in ACTION

    looking in the logs (/var/log/cpanel-install-thread0.log) all the mysql components faileD!!!!!!

    eeek!!..

    Im running Trustix 2.2.

    I have submitted a support request to cpanel.

    either its Trustix has updated the mysql package OR cpanel install script has changed and no longer works OR mysql themselves have moved / changed the mysql packages !!!!!!!!!

    cpanel is type to use mysql 4.0.25, but trustix uses 4.0.26..... hmmmm wonder if thats the cause.

    Cheers
