Default installed cpanel for RH8 on a RH9 box

    Hi,
When I ordered a server, I requested Red Hat 8. Well, my provider decided in all their wisdom to install Red Hat 9 and not tell me. So I installed CPanel for RedHat 8 on the box. Suprisingly, everything seems to be working well except it seems to be very slow and there are no accounts on the server.

    What should I do?

    1) Login to SSH as root.

    2) cd /home

    3) mkdir cpinstall

    4) cd cpinstall

    5) wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/cpanel-redhat9-install.sea

    6) sh cpanel-redhat9-install.sea

    7) after finished:
    rm -rf /home/cpinstall/

I have one of my own sites on this server. Will it hurt anything to do the above.

Also, everything seems to be working fine. I'm just afraid of an unforseen problem down the road.

Make backups, because any existing sites will get wiped.

Here's what I get when trying to do the above.

    Creating directory installd
Verifying archive integrity...cpanel-redhat9-install.sea: line 1: tail: command not found
cpanel-redhat9-install.sea: line 1: cksum: command not found
cpanel-redhat9-install.sea: line 101: [: -ne: unary operator expected
    OK
    Uncompressing cplyr1-cPanel
cpanel-redhat9-install.sea: line 133: ./install: No such file or directory
The program returned an error code (127)

Then it takes me back to the prompt

    There is also this option:

for a quick linux install just run the follow commands as root:

    cd /home;mkdir cpins;cd cpins;wget layer1.cpanel.net/latest;sh latest

    Still the same error

    Creating directory installd
Verifying archive integrity...latest: line 1: tail: command not found
latest: line 1: cksum: command not found
latest: line 101: [: -ne: unary operator expected
    OK
    Uncompressing cplyr1-cPanel
latest: line 133: ./install: No such file or directory
The program returned an error code (127)

    I'm formatting the box

With out beeing to sure and like this, I would think a reinstall is better because normaly diferent RH versions use diferent RPM vith diferent versions of libs etc. So even if I think you shuld not be able to install RH 9 RPMS og RH 8 you might have a better start with a fresh server ..

No need to run the rh9 installer.
