Installing subversion - CentOS 3.8

Hi,

I've been trying to install Subversion on a CentOS 3.8 box (WHM/cPanel info in my sig). Actually all I really want is a client, but I don't think that matters too much.

I've tried using WHM Install rpm, but there's nothing there for Subversion (even after updating). I've tried in shell using yum install subversion, but am told there is no matching package and I've tried using rpm as follows...

rpm -i -F http://the.earth.li/pub/subversion/s...4.2-1.i386.rpm
rpm -i -F http://the.earth.li/pub/subversion/s...4.2-1.i386.rpm
rpm -i -F http://the.earth.li/pub/subversion/s...4.2-1.i386.rpm

...but this didn't seem to do anything either. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Any advice?

I've been doing some googling around and am beginning to think this may have something to do with my system being 64 bit (dual proc i686) but I'm unsure. It's getting over my head. What a PITA to just get a client running. It was a heck of a lot easier on my MacOSX box ;-)

configure dag repos on your server use yum to install for example

download this rpm

wget  http://dag.wieers.com/packages/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.3.4-1.el3.rf.x86_64.rpm

rpm -Uhv rpmforge-release-0.3.4-1.el3.rf.x86_64.rpm

yum update 
yum install subversion subversion-devel subversion-perl

after you have intslled

svn co repos_url directory name

xerophyte, thanks for the tip

This is new to me, so please understand my caution and parden any silly questions

Did some googling around of dag repos and see they are popular. I also came across some discussion (some with Dag) in regards to conflicting versions, in some case, in these repos and official ones. Do you think I should be really concerned about this and the consequences on what is otherwise a pretty stable box?

actually you should be fine, subversion does not break much if you don't run the server, you are only going to use the client, so you should be fine, but the rpm build on the orginal source package and dag repos used by many, and he fixes bugs as soon as he get the report of it. I don't think you need to worry about it

I work at a hosting company and everytime I try:

yum install subversion

I get this dependency:

Error: Missing Dependency: perl(URI) >= 1.17 is needed by package subversion

However CPAN reports:

URI is up to date (1.35).

How to I force yum to recognize that perl(URI) is in fact installed?

This happens on almost all of the cPanel servers I attempt to install Subversion on, and I work at a hosting company so it's pretty frequently that this occurs.

the cpan version is different from an rpm version, if you install it from an rpm that warning will go (dags repo discussed previously in this thread most likely will have one)
