It allows your users to have SSH access that is limited to their home directory. They can't leave their directory and browse other customers home directories.
Hello,
I set up jail shell for an account, then I SSHed to the server using this account username/password. I was able to browse outside the home directory of this user.
How come?
Thanks,
What were you browsing? Most of the directories that can be seen in jailshell are symlinks to required binaries/libraries and not the real file system. Jailshells are good, but they can only be so good bearing in mind that you're still allowing SSH logins on a shared server, so they're not foolproof.

Ok, actually if I type cd /, I can go to the root directory, I can view all directories. Is there a way to prevent the user from going out of his home directory?
I have been trying to find out the same thing. Using a jailshelled account I can still go up to /etc/ and view the contents of ANY lf the files.
