Default limit requests per virtual host

    Hi,
    I have cPanel server P4 3G with 2G RAM
    PHP installed as CGI

2-3 users are generating lots of load some times over 3.
Is there any way to limit their paralel connection limit or requests per second.
I saw that mod_throttle should do the job, but is it the most suidable for the job or there is something more good?

And one other problem slightly related to the one above.
How can i protect my server from users which start a program which downloads entire site. This really kills the server if someone is downloading a dynamic site.

    Thanks for the help

Almost you can solve this type of issues by tweaking httpd.conf

Installing mod_security and adding the user-agents should stop this, http://www.gotroot.com/downloads/ftp...seragents.conf should be enough to prevent most of it.

I dont think that this will hepl if the User Agent string is forged exactly as it has to be. But I think still a pretty good solution. Will give it a try.

But I guess it wont help me if the user agents are valid but lots of users are accessing one specific site. How can i limit this ?

    see if this helps:

If using frontpage extensions then the above could become unuseable. Frontpage sucks in any case.

If it's cgi (presuming suExec is enabled) then look at:

    RLimitNPROC directive

    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod/core.html
