Default "list accounts" does not show any sites

Early this morn, after installing Chirpy's firewall (had previously installed successfully 6 or 7 times so it is not a problem with Chirpy's firewall but was a pre-existing problem that had not yet reared it's ugly head!), apache started acting up and then shut down.

    Here are the specifics

first suexec dissappeared (yes, just wasn't there)
then couldn't "list accounts" in WHM
then also couldn't see sites on internet (not from either www.yourdomain.com or http://ipaddress/~username)
WHM and cpanel then went away

So after the initial panic wore off I started the usual forum searches and have done:

    /scripts/upcp force
reinstalled cpanel after the above didn't do anything
    recompiled apache with susexec

after that I got back WHM but could not list accounts

    accounts are still in /home
    backups are still in /backup

if I try to restore a backup I get a "user already exists" error and the backup wont restore.

I could deleted all the accounts (the accounts list fine in 'terminate multiple accounts") but there are several hundred and the delete/restore process would take days. I can do this if necessary but think there is probably a better way.

I do have a ticket in w/Cpanel but thought some of the pro jocks could offer advice.

    Chris

Can you see anything in httpd.conf ? If there is nothing, find httpd.old or something like that, it is next to that file and just copy entrys there.
