    Default Loadbalancing

    All,

I thought I would give this a crack as I have seen many people requesting this feature, until now I have been unable to get anywhere with it - now, however, though a combination of the following:

    DRBD
    Heartbeat
    cPanel 11.2x
    rsync

I have been able to achieve this, I am starting to put the documentation together if anyone is interested?

    Cheers

    JSM

    System So far

    1 x 74GB (/dev/sda)
    1 x 280GB (/dev/sdb)
2 x IP Addresses (one each)
1 x FLOATING IP Address (same subnet - can be different)

    Requirements:
    Basic install of Centos
    Heartbeat
    DRBD82
    KMOD-DRBD82

I have the /dev/sdb replicated as /repdata with links to the critical files that are needed within the /repdata partiton - there are also some additional postwwwacct and postkillacct scripts thats needed - the use of SSH Keys also helps to make this an easier system to manage as the postwwwacct and postkillacct scripts are there to replicate changes to some files that cant be placed on /repdata

If people are waiting for CP12 with Loadbalancing then thats cool - I wont bother posting, but if there are genuinely interested people - please get in touch.

I believe there are certainly some people who would welcome seeing posts or guides on how you did load balancing for your machines. I would personally like to see the guides on what steps were taken.

I'm very interested - and the more details you can share, the better

Genuine load balancing done with only cPanel, DRBD and Heartbeat would be undoubtedly interesting. I don't believe there is any reliable solution to this, though - at least due to database engines. If you move the database engine out of equation and make dual-primary DRBD setup with some kind of cluster FS, then it would sound feasible. I genuinely don't believe any rsync-based solution will work reliably and especially in cases when any of the load-balancing hosts would fail...
