It is going to the CPanel default page because it didn't find any entry for mail.domain.com in the httpd.conf file.If you want mail.domain.com to open your main domain.com then add ServerAlias mail.domain.com www.mail.domain.com in the VirtualHost section of the domain.com in httpd.conf file.

Make sure you stop/start apache after making changes and saving the httpd.conf file.
