Mail Filters question

Is there a way to configure Mail Filters to "reject" or "bounce" a message, if certain criteria are met?

Here is what I'm trying to do. I have Spam Assassin set up to tag a message as spam, if it scores 9.0 or higher. Right now, if it is flagged as spam, I have it set to DISCARD. I am toying with the idea of somehow setting it up so that anything scoring between 5.0 and 8.9 would be REJECTED or BOUNCED, and anything 9.0 or greater would still be DISCARDED.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way -- any suggestions?

First set up your spam level to 9 then go to filters section and set up multiple filters where any spam header that has
X-Spam-Level: ***** gets rejected
X-Spam-Level: ****** gets rejected
X-Spam-Level: ******* gets rejected
X-Spam-Level: ******** gets rejected
and any spam header that has the following
X-Spam-Status: YES gets discarded

How do you tell it to reject? What do you put in the "Destination" field? Just simply "reject"? If so, wow, that was easy. Where can I find a list of valid things to put in the Destination field of the filters?

I believe you would use ":fail:" without quotes.

The one bad thing this will do is fill up the mail-queue on the server you are on since most addresses that are sending these spam emails do not go back to someone real.

Most spam use return addresses that are not real so you will be filling up your email queue and if this is not your server you will most likely be pissing off your provider.

I totally agree about filling up the queue, but I am using some pretty aggressive RBL blocking, so this is just for the stuff that sneaks through, that Spam Assassin then picks up as spam.

I've tried a couple tests with a :fail: destination -- will let you know if it works.

after taking a look I am not sure if :fail: will work.
I could not find a list of acceptable destinations except for the following which are listed on the filters page.

"Discard", "|/home/user/email.pl" or "user@domain.com" (without quotes).

Please let me know if it did work for you.

Yeah, I saw those also. Anyway, the mail seems to go into a big black hole. Mail isn't rejected, and it doesn't arrive.

I just find it so hard to believe that Spam Assassin can't REJECT mail if it smells like spam. It will let you put it into a spam box. Or it will let you discard it.
