    Default Mail routing

    Hello,

I apologize if this has been answered.

What is the proper way to set-up a domain on a cpanel/whm server where the dns is not hosted on the server and one desires that mail generated from the server gets sent on to where the mail is being hosted(elsewhere).

I have already removed references to the domains in my localdomains file, but the email is just getting bounced now.

You can set-up a domain in WHM as you normally do even if the DNS are not hosted on your server. You will just have to create a zone file for your domain on the server where the DNS are hosted. Also if you are using a different Mail Exchanger, you will have to change the MX records for the domain in its zone file. The MX record should point to the hostname of the Mail Exchanger.

Make sure you remove the entry of the domain from /etc/localdomains and add it in /etc/remotedomain file.
