Default The mail spool has more then 1000 messages!

Been having some mail problems on a server, i think the mail queue is getting backed up and rather then trying to deliever them all or delete them all, there a work around to maybe what might cause it to get so backed up?

    Hi

been through a bit of that ourselves in the past.

    1. are your loads on the server running above 05.00 ?

if so that will stop exim from delivering, you can increase the delivery load in exim.conf, of course lowering the loads is a better option and extra ram works wonders.

    2. are the emails legit or just spam?

if spam you might have a spammer on the server do a search at root

    locate bomb.php

    3. if you have many clients on the server sending lots of emails it might be time for redundant mail server.

    4. If the emails are legit but can't deliver, at root run

    /scripts/mailperm

    5. If the emails are legit but still not sending try delivery on some and look at the errors in WHM or the exim error log

    1. Yes, load is usually above 5 marjority of the time
    2. Most of them look legit | no bomb.php
    3. I might have to take that into consideration
    4. Ran that.
    5. If anything the most error message I get is this
    SMTP>> RCPT TO:
SMTP<< 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
    SMTP>> QUIT

Redundant mail server? Can you give a brief (or longer), informative statement regarding this matter please. Is this something we could set up with our WHM's or would it need to be done at our NOC?

ok if your loads are above 5 that will explain why your emails are not going out, if if you force delivery it won't go if the load is above 5

You could stop apache or mysql for a short time to force out the mail.

The error you show could be SMTP authentication error do a google putting this in the search box

SMTP<< 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts

Plenty of results to read about which may help.

Redundant may not be the correct term for what I meant as backup mailserver, a completely separate Box-server just for emails, considering most clients see email as the most important feature of hosting and if you having email problems then a second server just for emails is worth it.

Some fairly cheap units about just for that purpose I have seen around $30 - $50 per month.

It basically just sets all the mailboxes on the entire server to their original default values I believe. Chmod's 'em to 660 as I remember.

Don't know. I have never ran that one. I only used the other once before to fix and account that wasn't pulling in the mail.... it worked.

I wish I could answer that question. I have at least 2000+ every morning that just sit on the server for no reason. I can force delivery everytime..... and to top it off it is all local delivery to email accounts on the server.. I could understand if the server was trying to send it elsewhere..... but not when it is local deliveries.

Ive went through mine, done manually delivery a few times and what didnt go through I deleted them all. Most of it is junk now, but now that I disabled spamassasin, the mailqueue doesnt fill up as bad now, but still gets pretty full everyday.

I wish they would just install Sendmail. Scrap this Exim. It has been nothing but trouble. And make Sendmail work properly so we dont need to deal with NOBODY!

Can always disable exim and install sendmail yourself if you wanted to.
