    Question MailScanner not delivering emails

    I have MailScanner install for a while and working fine but that was until yesterady. All of a sudden all email send via SMTP to my email server were not deliver.

    I checked the /var/log/maillog file and noted that MailScanner did performed spam and virus check on all incoming messages but failed to deliver them.

    All message are stucked in /var/spool/exim_incoming/input waiting for delivery.

    I have tried to reinstall both exim and Mailscanner from sratch by fail to resolve the problem. Would anyone kindly give me some insights into this. Currently I have disable MailScanner but really would like to bring it back online. Many thanks.

    I noticed that all the file are locked in the /var/spool/exim_incoming/input queue and the /mailscanner/incoming/ are empty. Does this mean MailScanner is unable to move those email from the exim_incoming to MailScanner/incoming for scanning?

    If so, how can I unlock these file for MailScanner.

    You are not alone!

    I noticed the same problem only with SMTP, I thought it had some thing to do with the MailScanner config by adding more pid but still no go. Every once in a while mail hangs till I force it out.

    How do you force MailScanner to scan and deliever emails?

    Inside WHM if it is sitting in Mail queue I click on Attemp to deliver and away it goes.

    I can't do that because the mail queue in WHM is empty whereas the command exim -qff shows there are file locked up in the queue.

    I try to use exim -qff to force a delivery of the queue but all the messages are locked (spool file is locked). Is there a way for me to unlocked these messages?

    All new messages I send are automatically locked themselves up in the queue.

    Any idea of how to fix this? Please assist. Thanks.

    Sometimes the clamav update process gets locked up -- when that happens MailScanner shuts down. You need to login via shell session, do ps -aux and check the clamav process. If it's been updating for a very long time, kill it. The mail will start flowing.

    Curious Too, after I had killed the clamav processes, MailScanner began delivering mails again from its queue. Thank you so much for your insight into the problem.

    Also, RavenKnights, thank you very much for your help.

    MailScanner is up and running again. Thanks guys
