    Default making symlinks?

Is there any way to build a symlink generator within the file manager?

Obvious security risks exist and would need to be worked around, but perhaps symlinks could be restricted to/from within the /www or /public_html space only?

Reason I ask: I do a lot of photo/music work, and my current ISP doesn't allow shell access to symlink my data files to common names, which is something I really miss coming from doing my own web hosting years ago.

Can anyone think of any solutions? creating symlinks via PHP requires that my public_html folder be owned by the apache user - less than ideal for long periods of time of course.
