Anyone know how to change this? I'm only unable to have usernames up to 8 chars. It's not a system setting as I can create longer usernames using useradd, just can't through cPanel..

You can't.Originally posted by bjg

Actually, it is on some systems. Some systems have a max username of 8 characters, it's a very standard restriction. If CPanel stretched this, it would ensure that those systems wouldn't be compatable with CPanel.Originally posted by bjg

Granted, (most) newer systems and OS releases can handle longer, but the standard is still 8 characters. It's a decent standard that should be upheld by all. 8 chars is plenty long enough for a username.

8 characters is not long enough.
The company in question has a firstname.lastname user-naming standard.
Then THEIR standards wouldn't be compliant with more than a few systems. Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to change that situation. The only way to assure 100% compatability , as has been said is just what has been done, enforce an 8 letter standard.
Like I said, it's more than enough.

Search for LONGUSERS in the forums and in /scripts/wwwacct. I really don't how long until cpanel explodes somewhere if you set that, though.
If they are using firstname.lastname for email before the @, then you can still use that on cpanel, you just can't have the username for control panel access be longer the 8 characters.
