Default migrating to a new box (same IP) how?

    Hello,

I must ASAP change my hardware because on of my boxes crashes every 2-3 hours.

    But how?

    My plan:
    1. Setup a new box
    2. Give the now box an ip and install cpanel and rvskin
    3. Take the old box from the network and copy all accounts with the account copy feature
    4. Give the new box the IP form the old box

BUT, what happens with DNS if i copy the accounts?

Exist an option to not mod. the DNS while copy runs?

Or is it better to give all accounts a new IP and point the old IP to the new Server?

    Thanks for any tip

You'll have to talk to your NOC and see if they can keep the same IPs while migrating to the new server. Unless you have access, physically speaking, to the DC and can work on your old and new servers there. In this case, you'll have to have sound experience in Linux/Unix administration to do these things. In any case, good luck!

DigitalN has written a procedure to do exactly that quite simply:
