Since the system updated last night, we have been getting this from cron every 5 minutes:
Daemonizing MRTG ...
ERROR: I Quit! Another copy of mrtg seems to be running. Check /etc/mrtg/mrtg.pid
What's going on here?

I haven't figured out how to stop it yet. In the meantime I've got a filter on my email account discarding those specific cron notices.
To stop mrtg, run this:
killall mrtg
That won't stop the cron that is trying to restart it. If you kill it, it will start on the next cycle. Then it will try to start agan 5 minutes later and continue spamming.Originally posted by wayhawke

killall mrtg
kill it and then edit /etc/crontab to remove it. Also delete pid file in /etc/mrtg

Crap, I never looked at the crontab itself.Originally posted by dgbaker

I am not getting these emails.
There is no instances of MRTG running on our server anymore.
Stats stopped getting updated yesterday morning at 0400.
There IS an entry in the crontab for it.
Anyone know how I can get my mrtg back?

I got the error messages, then stopped our own version of MRTG and then started CPanel's MRTG. I did not get any error messages anymore after that but MRTG isn't working either.
Is there any updates on this issue?
I miss it already

Hello, cPanel???? Please at least acknowledge the issue!
ps auxwwf|grep mrtg
what do you see?
Nothing! Zero, zip, nada!
I am rather irate that cpanel has broken my isntallation of mrtg.
I am all for cpanel integrating mrtg, but why oh why did they implement it in a broken state?!?!?!?!
Did anyone actually pay the 1500 or so for a license? Geesh I'd be torqued if I was spending more than the $10 a month I am for cpanel.

Try building your own mrtg rather than using an RPM, that way cpanel shouldn't touch it since IIRC it uses the RPM.
Edit: either that or specify a different PID file in your config as opposed to the one cpanel uses.
I have had this happen to me a few times. The cPanel updates sometimes update my own version of MRTG to a later version. I wake up to a mess of emails. This has happened a couple of times. So all I do is remove the current version of MRTG and install my RPM again.
I do wish I had enough sense to tell the updates to skip MRTG but lack of time doesn't help me much![]()
