    Question MX record for subdomain

    Hello All,

I have a client who needs a MX records to be created for his subdomain. The Mx record is for another server.

    users.domain.com MX 10 mail.otherserver.com

So i logged into the control panel and tried to set the MX record but the issue is that it does not update the DNS at all after adding the MX records.

So i decided to manually edit the DNS zone and put the entry in the dnz zone file but i dunnno what to put in the DNS zone.

I tried something like this :

    users MX 10 mail.anothreserver.com

After the Propagation the MX record was :

    users.domain.com MX users.domain.com.mail.anotherserver.com

    So i removed the entry

can anyone please let me know what should i add in the DNS zone file to get

    users MX 10 mail.anotherserver.com

Any comments will be appreciated !

    Thank You,

Default RE: MX record for subdomain

    Dear vishal,

Subdomain will not resolve without a main domain name. It is not possible to add an entry with simply subdomain name.It should be like subdomain.maindomain.com. So you add the following in DNS zone file

    users MX 10 mail.anotherserver.com.

    After propagation it will be

    users.maindomain.com MX 10 mail.anotherserver.com

    Regards,

    Regards,
Thank you for the reply, But that didnt resolve my problem.
i tried that one before and it showed me
    users.maindomain.com.mailserver.com as the MX recored.

    Then
I created a mail1 A for IPaddress of mail server
    and then
    users MX 10 mail1

    which resolved it.

    Thanks.
