Thread: my.cnf

    Default my.cnf

    While trying to edit /etc/my.cnf in pico I get:
    "Cannot open file for writing: Permission denied"
    ls -lah returns -rw-r--r-- 1 root root

    When trying to change the permsisions on it I get chmod: /etc/my.cnf: Operation not permitted.

    I'm logged in as root.

    Any ideas?

    chattr -i /etc/my.cnf

    try that

    change permissions to 755 or 777

    Everytime I try that I get "Operation not permitted."

    download that and try to change permissions

    I found the problem - needed to run chattr -a
    I can now edit the file.
