MYSQL 4 Problem & Server Load

Hello,

CPANEL has upgraded to MYSQL 4 and I am having problem with
Invision Board.

I tried to work do some change in /etc/my.cnf with the following guide provided by InvisionBoard member

query_cache_limit=1M
query_cache_size=32M
query_cache_type=1
max_connections=500
interactive_timeout=100
wait_timeout=100
connect_timeout=10
thread_cache_size=50
key_buffer=40M
join_buffer=1M

record_buffer=1M
sort_buffer_size=768K
read_buffer_size=512K
max_connect_errors=10
thread_concurrency=2
myisam_sort_buffer_size=64M

But I only have this in my /etc/my.cnf,

[mysqld]

max_connection=500

So, I did a cut and paste and save it. I am not sure will it works
but my server load shoot up from average 0.2 to 2.

Any help? Am I doing the right thing?

Thank you for the response.

Will it be ok for me to cut and paste everything into /etc/my.cnf?

Should I remove away those "#"?

My Server is P4 1.7ghz with 512RAM. Do I need to change anything from there?
