Default MySQL Permissions lost during update - WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-S13517

    Hi Guys,

I am running a VPS server with the following:
    WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-S13517
    RedHat 9 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0
    phpMyAdmin - 2.9.0.2
    MySQL client version: 4.1.10
    mysql version: 5.0.27-standard

I have a database that needs "Super Privileges" and so this was done. However, when Cpanel is updated the user permission is reset automatically from "ALL PRIVILEGES" to "USAGE".

Does anyone know how to correct this issue?

    Hi Everyone,

Here's a look at the database permissions from phpMyAdmin.

    Code:
User Host Password Global privileges Grant
hello localhost Yes ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
hello_ % No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
hello_ localhost No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
The database "hello" loses its "ALL PRIVILEGES" and switches over to "USAGE" if an update is triggered. Updates to cpanel, creating/removing a database/user, and updating the account password will cause the switch.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

Ditto. I'm still looking if there's a fix listed in the forums, otherwise I'll just hope it's fixed in cP 11.

Has anyone submitted a support ticket about this? If not, I'd highly recommend doing so if you wish to see resolution of your problem.

Doesn't fix all issues yet and is cPanel 11 only.

    Default Still unresolved

This issue appears to STILL be unresolved:

    cPanel 11.24.4-R33245 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9
    CENTOS 5.2 i686 on virtuozzo

Forced to use root on db's which is not a satisfactory solution for obvious security reasons.

The bugzilla report 5622 seems to have been abandoned.

Any updates on a fix for this?

I recommend opening a Support ticket regarding the issue. If the bug exists that's the fastest way to get it resolved.

Default Cpanel or database update wiping permissions?

    We are having similar problems;

    Setup is VPS running cPanel 11.24.4-R33609 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9
    CENTOS 5.2 i686 on virtuozzo - MYSQL 5.x, PHP 5.x

Our db's utilise the mysql root user account to perform certain db functions (SUPER) and we also created a second user with "ALL" privileges.

The second user privs are being periodically reset, as for others in this thread, and of course this breaks the production db our client runs its business on.

When updating the full databases via script from a local testbed we do a drop and recreate to ensure all procedures and triggers are properly updated. AFAIK this should not affect mysql user tables and privs but perhaps it does.

Is it possible that cpanel has some sort of triggered process that may alter a user's privileges if the relevant database is removed as happens through this script?

It may be the cpanel updates that are resetting user privs - and if it is then hopefully the disabling of the mysqlsecure script will prevent this problem.

But I'd really appreciate a cpanel expert's view on whether the drop and recreate process might be the culprit.

    Default Any updates on this?

Just had an instance where all 'non-root' mySQL user privileges were all wiped out and set to USAGE. Cannot find any satisfactory explanation for how this could happen. Was definitely not result of a user initiated action. Is there something in cPanel or phpMyAdmin that could automatically trigger something like this?

    Thanks.

There is nothing in cPanel/WHM that could automatically do such a thing.
