mysql servername-bin files

Hi,

My server: Redhat enterprise linux P4 with Cpanel

In my var/lib/mysql directory there are over 1,500 files with the format:

myservername-bin.1234 where 1234 is the numbers starting at 001 and going up to over 1500

The dates of the files are from 2 years ago up through today.

Does anyone know what these files are and how they get there? I am thinking they may be tmp files, but I want to know for sure before I do anything with them.

Anyone? I sure would like to recover this disk space if those files can be deleted.

1) stop service mysql
2) delete the files
3) start service mysql

Hello,

Did you set replication on your server ?. This files are used for mysql replication. Check your my.cnf file and remove the lines like
--------------------------------------
log-bin=mysql-bin
server-id=1
-------------------------------------

Then restart mysql. It will help you
