Named causing high CPU loads

Hello!

I have one server

WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.8.2-R115
Fedora i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

where named is causing unusually high CPU load.

All other servers with the same set-up are fine.

Does anyone have a similar problem??

I have had clients notice that domains seem to be going down frequently in the last month and since i was made aware i have also noticed different other services going down and automatically restarting very frequently.

When i disable named all problems stop besides the fact that no DNS is being served up of course.

When looking at CPU usage in WHM named is always the largets process taking 70% or more.

If anyone has similar problems or a solution it would realy be appreciated.

You might be suffering from a DNS DOS if you haven't configured named to disallow DNS recursion and zone transfers. If you haven't done that, then there are some recent threads that have discussed how to do this.

If you have disabled recursion, then you could turn on full named logging to try and determine where the problem might be.
