named fails constantly

Hello,

Since a few hours named fails contantly and is restarted automagically.

When I look in the /var/log/messages it says:

client IP#33359:view external: recieved for zone 'zone.com'

This message is repeated for each of the zones on the server.

Then a few minutes later:

shutting down: flushing changes


At the time this behaviour started there was a lot of entries like this:

lame server resolving 'IP'
and
unexpected RCODE (SERVFAIL) resolving 'IP'
unexpected RCODE (REFUSED) resolving 'domain/AAA/IN'

all with IP's and domains I don't recognize.

Though it seems all is working ok, it would be great to get this fixed so that I don't get named failed emails each ten minutes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Did you try the following ?

/scripts/fixrndc
/scripts/rebuildnamedconf

try these and check tail -f /var/log/messages and check the effect of it.

yes, I have tried those scripts but it had no effect, I still get those named failed emails.

I'm not that advanced using the shell, usually I just use the cpanel, but when I get those emails that named failed, should not there be an entry in the messages log that named failed? Or is those emails generated from cpanel that monitors named? Because it seems like named is just being restarted, not crashing?

When named is started there is an entry like this for each domain on the server:

zone thezone.com/IN/internal: sending notifies

then for each zone there is a:

client IP#33359: view external: recieved notify for zone 'thezone.com'

Is that why named wants to restart maybe?

Looks like your name server is having problems. Confirm from your DC about the name servers.
