    Default Nameserver / Hostname Problems

My Nameservers Don't Seem To Be Working.
Every Time I Login To WHM It Pops Up A Window Saying:

The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (chrisalya.nboxservers.net). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automaticlly add the entry, Click Here.

Then When I Click There It Says.
Adding an A entry for chrisalya.nboxservers.net
IP=66.227.104.205 ndc: connect failed: connection refused Add Complete

    How Would I Fix This?

First, make sure that the domain chrisalya.nboxservers.net exists on the server. If it does not, install it. Then add the host names and A records. If you are still getting the ndc error, SSH into your box, su , and then run /scripts/fixndc (make sure to run this twice!). Just for good form, I always like to restart bind and appache afterwards, but you dont need to. That should work.

Does this mean that you'd have to create the subdomain via Cpanel in the domain "nboxservers.net"?

No, nboxservers.net is the domain. It needs to be created for a dns zone, that way you can add the host name of a host that belongs in the zone to the zone, you can not add it if the zone does not exist.

    Nevermind. All Fixed!
I SSHed In And Did /scripts/fixndc twice,
Then Logged Into WHM, Hit That Fix Button, And Everything Worked!

GREAT!!! Glad to hear it, the upcp, and then fixndc twice really works well for almost ANY Bind/dns/name server issue.

You'd need to contact your ISP about that. It's a feature of your server and account and not every provider offers shell access (although if they refuse, you should demand, and if they still refuse, I'd suggest switching providers).

You could try downloading a programme called "Putty" (Google search on "Putty SSH download") and enter your domain name as the host, and choose the "SSH" option (rather than telnet).

Log in using your user name and account password.

    It's worth a shot.

If you can not ssh, then you are not root. The scripts need to be ran as root.

jayp6969, may I suggest you hire yourself a ServerAdmin.

Rackshack provides no support for the Server as they provide Servers that are self-managed. The only support they do provide is to refomat your hard drive. Your questions on Shell and SSH indicate you are not familiar with working in Shell and could possible do more damage than anything else.

WHM is a control panel that "helps" one in operating a Server. An automatic transmission "helps" one in changing gears while diriving, but doesn't tell you when you need more tranny fluid, or gas, or your Windshield is cracked, etc.

I would be more than happy to be a server admin for you for a monthly fee. If interested, email me at amintaheri1@hotmail.com or taheria@wsdot.wa.gov.

I agree, if you dont know, then it may time to have some one help out for a little while.
