Default Need Some Help with Upgrading Apache

Hi all. I'm running apache 1.3.37 right now, and I'd like to upgrade to 2.2.4 (preferred) or 2.0.59 (if I must settle) for my server.

I tried using easyApache 2.0.2 to upgrade to Apache 2.2 but every time I do, it installs and runs, but permissions get mucked up and I can't seem to fix them. I've tried with and without suPHP, and finally had to revert to 1.3.37 because I need to get other things done.

Now, since 2.x starts a different style of *.conf files, I notice that cPanel 11 and WHM 11 still write everything to the httpd.conf which is deprecated. Plus, I like the idea of having all virtualhosts in a vhosts.conf file that can easily be edited without scanning through 1000 lines of other settings.

Now, the other problem I've had is PHP. On my home server (Win. Vista Ultimate) I'm running Apache 2.2 with mySQL and PHP 4 & PHP 5. I'm running PHP 4 as a DSO and PHP 5 as a CGI. The only thing that's required is to make a script PHP 5, is to change the extension to "php5" instead of "php". I've tried to do this with EasyApache and it seems like it doesn't want to compile PHP with Apache.

So here is my set of questions:
    1. Can EasyApache do what I want? And if so, can someone drop the directions on how to do it? I haven't figured it out yet. If I have to do manual manipulation of files, that's fine.
    2. If I use YUM to install Apache and PHP myself, will I still be able to control the server from WHM? Or do I have to use EasyApache to install it?
    3. Is it planned for WHM 11 to use two different .conf files for configuration? One for Apache1 and another for Apache2?

Thanks for any help you can offer me.

I'd suggest that you wait for easyapache3 to be released. easyapache2 has been dropped (and indeed reverted back to easyapache1) while cPanel work out the bugs. Have a search in the forum for the discussions regarding apache v2 and easyapache3.

Thanks for the update. Didn't know EasyApache 2 was dropped. Will search.

Do you know if they're going to update EDGE with EasyApache 3 anytime soon?

Just try to read some topics about cPanel 11 on this forum and you find much answers on your questions. Try to wait some days and you will get what you wan't easyapache 3 will be launched with cPanel 11 on the same time and if we are lucky in the first week of may.......yes that would be this week :-) (Stable / Current / Release versions)

Patiently awaiting WHM 11 with easyapache 3..... Still seems as though it's easyapache 2.0.2 even with the release yesterday.

Default Another one waiting for easyapache3

I've just got a new box ready to start hosting new clients but I'm still waiting for Apache 2 support. I've already upgraded to cPanel 11 CURRRENT, PHP 5.2.0 and MySQL 5.
