Default New to cpanel - need help - subdomains

Sorry if this has been asked, I cannot find an answer to it anywhere. Here is what I am trying to do.

Say I have example.com. I want to setup a user called bob with the domain bob.example.com. I want bob to have the email address bob@example.com. I would like him to have his own jailed shell account, and finally, have all of his home directory and website files under a new site. And if its possible, have his ssh, email, and ftp passwords all the same. When I setp email, ftp, etc.. I have to set all the passwords manually.

From trying to do this, I have found I can setup a subdomain under example.com, but then bob doesn't have a shell account. And also, his webroot is under example.com/bob

If I create a new domain as bob.example.com, I can setup the shell account, ftp, etc..., but then his mail is user@bob.example.com. Am I asking too much, or going about this the wrong way? Any help would be apprecitated.

    Thanksl

Your results are correct because that is the way WHM/Cpanel currently works.

Using the 'Add-on' invokes a Sub-domain setup. Therefore, it is not the main account. Options applied to the main account are effective for the main account -- but not usually for Add-on or Sub Domains.

Creating a new domain, with a Sub-domain, will be treated as the main account -- but it will use whatever Domain name was included when the main account was setup.

So, to answer your question(s), if you want 'Bob' to have "his own jailed shell account, and finally, have all of his home directory and website files in his own directories" -- and not use a Sub-domain account -- then 'Bob' will need to use his own Domain name.
