yeah, i just now saw that. thanks
Well, DNSONLY could be a solution, but I liked to have my nameserver-master out of Cpanel control, simply because we also have dedicated servers, which use the DNS-system through a php-script (which we are working on).
I read this thread, but is it not simply possible to have:
ns1 -> master DNS, bind, no Cpanel
ns2 -> slave using bind, no Cpanel
Cpanel-servers, not using cluster, but putting in Stand-alone mode, which enables them to send updates to a master DNS server (like it does now). This way we cirumvent the cluster-mechanism, which probably works great for you guys with only Cpanel servers (and use DNS on your shared servers).
Anybody tried this out already ?

Sorry to be a pain, I just wanted someone to tell me I had got this right before attempting to do it. Here is how I read it:-
1) On the main server add each of my slave servers to the cluster.
2) On each of the slaves just add the main server.
This will, for all intents and purposes, set up a communication with the master server from each of the slaves... which will in turn pass back any DNS changes made on any of the servers.
Is that correct?
That's what we've done and it's working fine. We also took down each DNS server individually and the others successfully took the load without error. Remember to sync the servers afterwards. We used the "Synchronize DNS Records with Primary Nameserver" under DNS Functions on the master DNS which worked, someone posted a command line option earlier as well.Originally posted by web12

Just a quick question Regarding what you said above... What happens if you take down the master server and make a DNS change on either of the slave servers... presumably the DNS change is Q'd somewhere so that when the master comes back up the DNS propogates to the master as well as the other slaves?
Thanks again, want to make sure i have this right before I risk anything.
Just applied this new system to 18 servers using 4 named machines and works perfect.
Thank you.
