There is a 15 day demo but could cpanel be programmed like this.

    1. Only ip numbers 192.168.xxx.xxx and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx can be used.
    2. DNS only alows .loc and/or .localhost
    3. Domains only allow .loc and .localhost
    4. Communication between cpanel servers only trough 192.168.xxx.xxx and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
    5. When trying to add ip numbers outside the range cpanel deactivate it's self.

This would be handy for internal testing, it should not be free $50 dollars a year or $100 life time, support would not be given as the other cpanels but only trough payed support tickets. If this is posible it solves a lot of problems at my side (can't offord a life time license or a one year) i can test cpanel and try before a totaly srewup the production server. I think this is handy for a lot of hosters they could internaly test cpanel before they do it on production servers. 2 computers for testing cost a few hundred dollars but if they must buy 2 cpanel licenses that would be to expensive, 2 computers and about 200 dollar for a testing cpanel that is not so expensive.

    Why do i ask this well i would like to test cpanel more but;

    1. I can't afford a full license (and 15 days is not enough for full testing and bug hunting)
    2. I can buy one computer for 400 dollars and 100 dollar for a license that is avoidable.

I think others would be intrested in this.

Default easy way to do custom apache builds

apache 2 support would be nice... how about a text box that we can paste our existing apache build into, modify and submit. Every time I update apache I try WHM one more time, then build it manually, gotten to where I don't even try WHM any more. Also a little more flexibility from the list customers would be nice, ability to suspend/Unsuspend change passwords and do pretty much anything relating to the list would be nice - perhaps also a switch to default that list to always showing all of the list, every time I open it I click on show all. Put the search on top of the list and defualt to all, might even consider a condensed list of just the domain names six to ten columns wide as links to a single view of the default list style, you could easily fit 80 to 160 a page, then I would only need to scroll through a few pages. I also don't know why I have to manually install ssl certs, but each time I try with whm, I break my box and have to do it manaully anyway, does anyone else have this problem... low priorty though, as it seems easier by hand anyway.

OH, and here is an important one... if you log into cpanel with a valid username and the root password, then try to access phpmyadmin it tells you you can't do stuff with root password... and if it is the user they just figured out your root password. I realize the odds of this happpening are remote, but how about just telling them, if that is their password they need to change it because it has been comprimised or something. Each new customer increases the chance of duplicate passwords and you just never know.
because the mind is a terible thing...

Default Thread real long . . . maybe this has been covered . . .

Sorry if this has been covered, but this thread is really long and I can't see it anywhere.

The one main feature that I would like to see is the option of specifying a custom PHP configuration when building apache from WHM.

When choosing to build apache from WHM, all the checkboxes regarding the PHP config are very nice, however what would be nicer would be to have a text box into which you could type the PHP config that you want in the same way that you would do if configuring PHP manually.

Default SUGGESTION: backup /var/named and /etc files

I dont know if this has been suggested but i would like to see cpanel have the ability to backup and restore nameserver and IP settings when doing backups.

I just had a server "owned" which needed a full clean and an OS reload and while its great that i have the clients sites in backup i dont have their /var/named files, the IP delegations, nameserver details etc.

god knows this would be very handy in an emergency event....

    ls -al /backup/cpbackup/daily/dirs/_var_named.tar.gz
    -rw------- 1 root root 300983 Feb 13 01:01 /backup/cpbackup/daily/dirs/_var_named.tar.gz

It's already there - if you selected "Backup Config Files" when configuring backup in WHM.

Ah yes i knew it was there... what i mean is to automate the process so that when you do a restore the dns is automatically set back up as well.

it would mean while doing a full server restore that as the accounts are done they immediately begin to restore instead of them getting setup with the default nameservers etc.

ah a pleasant liitle ^%$^@#! from Saudi Arabia he was it appears...

he came in thru an insecure copy of nuke, we got alerts almost straightaway of his access but by the time we got him it was too late...public_html folders were dissapearing like lightning so we bit the bullet...

one positive is we finally got this particular server away from RH9 and up to CentOS

cPanel doesn't need to replace offsite/offbox backups. It is still useful to have a complete backup made to another box, outside of cPanel's control, as we can't rely on cPanel's package scripts to catch everything (i.e. It still doesn't get counter data, or MX records)

That being said, it would be great if the account packager copied the user's zonefiles into the package. That would be useful for both backups and account transfers.

    Regards,
    Erek

Unfortunately, I am doing my backups via FTP. When I choose "backup configuration files" I get the error:

Only accounts can be backed up over ftp. The configuration file backup option has been turned off.

    Uh, that sucks. Now what?
