    Default New user & group ID's much lower - file ownership confused

    Hi,
    After creating a new account recently, I noticed that the GUID/UID is much lower than previously. I noticed this when stumbling across the fact that the user I had created suddenly owned a load of easyapache files.

    I changed the uid/group id to the next sequential number and though no more about it until I created another user the next day and the same thing happened.

    Is this expected/known about?

    Examples below:

    olduser1:x:32027:32029::/home/olduser1:/bin/bash
    olduser2:x:32028:32031::/home/olduser2:/usr/local/cpanel/bin/noshell
    newuser3:x:502:502::/home/newuser3:/usr/local/cpanel/bin/noshell

    This only seems to present an issue when re-using a previously used id but it can result in users seemingly with permissions on files they have no right to own.

    Any thoughts/advice?

    Many thanks

    Default Another occurance

    I've just had the same on one of my servers...a new regaular user has suddenly got ownership of loads of cpanel files.

    Scary (and dangerous...if their motives were not so innocent they could paralise an entire server)

    This thread discusses the problem in more detail:

    Support ticket logged.

    Cheers
