    Default Newbie webmail questions

    Hi,

We recently aquired a server with cpanel and I am starting to play with it to see how some of the features work.

I just want to validate some of my observations and I would appreciate it if somebody can validate it for me

    1. Let's say I have a sample.com domain with username sample. I created an email with alias info@sample.com. If I go to www.sample.com/webmail i tried logging (assuming the passwords were correct) in using sample@sample.com but it failed but when I tried info@sample.com it went thru. I tried sample as username (without the domain) and it worked. So am I correct in assuming that the primary account (sample) should not be used with the domain name (@sample.com) when logging into webmail and only the other aliases should be used as complete email in the username? How about in IMAP (via client) and POP3? is this rule the same?

    2. Say I have sample.com and demo.com. In some other control panel, i was able to login to squirrelmail using sample.com's squirrelmail but access info of demo.com. Example.

www.sample.com/webmail login is demo@demo.com. Will squirrelmail work on this? The reason is that I want to verify if all webmail interface are working before domain propagation therefore, i can't login using demo.com (if it is not propagated yet).

I hope somebody can clear this up for me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Herbert

    Correct.

If you 'park' demo.com on top of sample.com, yes. I think that's what you mean?

EDIT: I think all you are looking to do is add an e-mail account for demo.com which would also be possible after you 'park' demo.com on top of sample.com.

    Hi,

For question #2. Demo.com is a separate account. Demo.com's nameserver has not been pointed to the cpanel server yet but sample.com is a live site.

I guess what I wanted to do it have anyuser@demo.com login to squirrelmail jsut to check if it is working but how can I do this if demo.com is not propagated yet to the cpanel server.

    Thanks.

You can't verify e-mail delivery if that's what you mean. You could log in with the user assuming the account is created but that's about the extent until the domain's NS' are updated and propagated.
