No log files?

I need to download the log files for my site so that my stats program can analyze them. The problem is, my log files are not being kept! Here are my settings:

CPANEL
Archive logs in home director: CHECKED
Remove the previous month's logs: UNCHECKED

WHM
Delete each domain's access logs after stats run: UNCHECKED
Keep log files at the end of the month : CHECKED


What am I missing? Is there a setting I am missing?

Might work if you download the log file using WHM -> Account Functions -> Raw Apache Log Download

Nope, I get a 404 error :/ Any other suggestions? Any other settings I need to set?

You shouldn't be getting a 404 error, even if the log file contains no data.

Try right-clicking on the download link and selecting "Save Target As". If that still doesn't work, then I'd suggest you check /usr/local/apache/domlogs to see if the log for that domain even exists.

It actually is not a 404... It isays "Cannot find server or DNS Error"

I do not understand that since the site is hosted on the server?

They are not located in /home/user/logs/ which is where I need them.

Why were they kept there on my other cpanel server? And, how do I get them to be archived there (after every stats run) once again?

A couple of thoughts:

1) You could always copy the log file from /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainname to /home/user/logs/ if that's where you need them to access via FTP.

2) By default, the domain logs are stored under that apache directory so they can be accessed in the cPanel interface. The directive that controls this is stored in the httpd.conf file. If you want them written to /home/user/logs/, you would have to edit /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf and change the CustomLog directory (or create another entry so apache writes the logs to both places) within the VirtualHost container for that domain. Possibly this had been adjusted on your prior server.

I don't know why you are receiving the DNS error ... sounds like something is not configured correctly.

You have not aid how you are downlaoding them and what is giving you that error.

Also, make sure you restart apache after moving the logs otherwise all kinds of problems will happen.

What happened with the last server is that archived logs (up to the last stats run) were stored in /home/[user]/logs. Not the active logs that apache is writing to, but gzipped logs. So, it would have a log for october, november, and december. This file would be written to after cpanel ran its stats cycle... This allowed me to download the gzip file into my stats program and delete the logs. Then it would be recreated in a few hours with any new data (I have the stats updating every 4 hours). Absolutely nothing was configured outside of the whm / cpanel interface with the last server or this server

How do I get this behavior back?

Did you ever figure out who to do this? It would certainly solve the 2 gig problem with the logs.
