I REALLY need some help here.
I got online this morning to find that none of the passwords for WHM (including root) and cPanel are working. This means that none of the people that I host can log into their accounts nor can I myself get into the root account. I really really need some help on this because I have no idea what has happened. It worked fine last night and as soon as I got online, none of the passwords worked. Does anybody know a script or something that I can run to fix this and can somebody please tell me why this has happened. Thanks in advance. Plz help. No I wasnt able to get into anything including SSH.
But problem fixed! Just been speaking to my datacenter for the last 15 mins or so and apparently the shadow file for my server was totally empty and said it can happen sometimes when accounts get removed. Anyway, it was rebuilt and all seems fine now. Thx. |

Unless you have a backup passwd (usually called /etc/passwd-) or have a full cPanel backup (where you can restore passwd from /backup/cpbackup/daily/files/_etc_passwd.gz) then you're going to have to rebuild it by hand.

if you have access to the server, first disable the shadow password option. you can disable it through the following command authconfig. and reset the password of users and enable the shadow password option. It will recreate the /etc/shadow file. May be it will help you to solve this issue.
