noob question: How do I create a submdomain

I am trying to create a subdomain which redirects to another host.

Here is my example:
I have a domain www.mydomain.com which points to a live site
I would like to create a subdomain store.mydomain.com which redirects to www.otherdomain.com

I beleive there should be a way to do this through WHM, by editing the DNS zone for mydomain.com and adding a CNAME
store.mydomain.com IN CNAME www.otherdomain.com

Is that the correct way to handle it?

I would do it through Cpanel to be honest. It will automatically update httpd.conf and named so you do not have to make manual edits anywhere. Just create the subdomain then redirect it to where you want.
