Default Password Protect brings up 500 Internal Server Error! Help!

    Hey guys,

I want to password protect a folder on my site and i have done so with a simple password protect in cpanel, nice and simple.

However it tends to work first time however if i clear my cache or another person trys to log in it brings up a 500 internal server error.

    Why is this?

The only way i can get it to work again is delete the user or add another user and i cant do this every 5 mins.

    Please help!

    Chris

Can you paste the contents of your .htaccess file here? BTW, do you own the server? If yes, what do the Apache error logs say

    tail -f /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log
You can also manually password protect a directory using the .htaccess file. Just place the Auth code and create a .htpasswd file to include userassword.

Make sure you place the .htaccess file in a directory you want to password protect to.
