    Default Password Protected Directories

    Hi,

I create many password protected directories and have noted that when my clients connect to the directories they have to enter the user name and password twice before they can enter the directory. Once in the directory they have to enter the user name and password yet again to download material.

Does anyone know if this is normal? Can these directories be made to allow directory admitance with entering the user name and password only once?

I don't think it was always this way and I wonder if it has happened because I had to engage the hotlink protection function due to horrendous amounts of bandwidth pirating from my web site? Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

    Don

Commonly this issue is caused by using http://domain.ext mixed with http://www.domain.ext - remember, to most web browsers domain.ext and www.domain.ext are two completely different websites hence it will prompt for the authentication multiple times (one for domain.ext, another for www.domain.ext).

    Thanks David,

I will see if I can remedy that.

Thanks once again David. That did the trick. I changed all my address links to use only the http:// prefix and now the directory is opened with one instance of using the UN and PW. A visitor must still use the UN and PW once inside to start the downloads but that shouldn't be a problem. I just added a note in all my email download instructions to expect that.

    Best regards,
    Don
