Default Password Protected Directories - How to Protect Root?

    WHM 9.9.8 cPanel 9.9.8-C17**
    RedHat Enterprise 3 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0*

If you go into any users control panel > Password Protected Directories and click "/" It just refreshes the page. How would any of my users go about password protecting their home root directory?

They need to be able to do it from the control panel, any other method is unacceptable.

    Suggestions?

Can't password protect the root folder that way.

It would have to be done manually through the .htaccess file.

    easiest way is to:

    1. Password protect a directory
    2. Copy the contents of the .htaccess from that directory
    3. Paste it in the .htaccess of the root directory
    4. Now your protected.

Whatever username/password you used to protect the initial directory is what will be used to access the root directory, after you copy over the .htaccess file.

Why? When will cpanel fix this option and allow me to password protect the root directory from the control panel? I get questions about how to do this from clients all day...

    You have 3 options:

    1. Post what i posted above into your FAQ for your clients to read
    2. Submit a enhancement request in bugzilla
    3. Do all of the above

Or, the more popular 4th option...complain on forums.cpanel.net

If it's that big of a deal, put a enhancement request in, and make people vote on it. The more votes a bug receives, the quicker cPanel looks at it. This is the secret
